ELEMENTS PROJECT

For the Elements project, students were given the task to choose a form of weather (whether it be rain, wind, sun heat etc). For this project we were instructed to pick an element and create a character, which would later be included within the animation. The whole point of this is to show contrast between the character as they fight against the element. In addition, the animation would be done from one shot and would have zero cuts.

For my Elements project, I chose to portray my character fighting against rain/ water. This was based on my own experience quite a while ago when I was waiting at a bus stop on a rainy day and was sprayed by a car passing by. This dirty water not only soaked me but part of it went into my mouth. I don't plan to make the animation as disgusting as that story, but it was a starting point for my ideas.

In addition, I also recently experienced the effects of flooding near my area, as I had to walk under a tunnel with a massive pond sized puddle. The puddle was so deep that wooden planks had to be placed throughout it for passengers to step on. I thought I'd include the video here just for the sake of sharing it and because it is to do with the idea of rain and water. Plus it's been sitting on my phone for a while.

This is my character that will be featured in my elements animation. I really wanted to push myself and try doing a more detailed character, as opposed to the one I did last year. I wanted to include more detail than last time and try and push my limits. I was aware that I could have made her simpler in design, but I wanted to test how much I could improve and see how good I can get at single-handedly creating a detailed original character.

I also included a brief outline of the setting she would be in. I wanted it to of course be a bus stop, and the plan for the animation was to make the audience feel a false sense of security for the girl as she shelters beneath the bus stop, before she gets splashed by a passing car. I thought it would be a great idea, especially since most of us have undergone a similar experience like this and I wanted to create something that was relatable.

Animation Creation And Development Videos

1ST TRY FOR OFFICIAL ANIMATION

THE EXPERIMENTATION AND ADDITION OF EFFECTS FOR FILM

After the animation was complete, I took the exported video and put it onto the CapCut app so that I could edit effects onto it. It was here I managed to include the lightening and rain effect, along with the audio and the grainy texture that filtered the film.

SECOND TRY

Despite being content with this animation, I forgot to add an important detail in the animation, that being the action of soaking the girls clothing after she got hit with water. I then took the video back onto TV Paint, where I added another layer and drew over her clothing in dark pen for her clothing to look drenched in filthy water. Alas, i exported the video again and placed it on my blog for it to be viewed today.
